FOOD: There are Burgers and then there are BURGERS
Where did they start? America. Not Hamburg, Germany like many people think. Now, the beef patty started in Hamburg, Germany, hence the hamburg steak. This idea was brought over by immigrates in the 1880s. Now when exactly the hamburger started no one really knows. There is a story that said food carts started making Hamburg steak but as you can imagine it was hard eating standing up and poof, add the bun and hamburger.
There are a lot of claims of who started the hamburger trend; Louis Lassen, Charlie Nagreen, Otto Kuase, Oscar Weber Bilby, Frank and Charles Menches and Fletcher Davis. We have no way of know which one is true.
Now, we do know that White Castle was the first fast food hamburger joint to open in 1921 following the war. Krystal opened in 1931 and McDonald's didn't open until 1940.
Despite this muddy history, one thing is for sure, hamburgers are popular nearly worldwide but what makes a burger a burger? The meat? The toppings? The bun? Different people will have different answers to what makes a burger a burger and who makes the best burgers.
According to Huffington Post in 2013 Americans consumed nearly 50 billion burgers in one year at roughly three burgers a week.
Now who sells the best burger? Well... if you research that topic you will get a variety of answers from best chain burgers, to best independent burger joints, upscale burger restaurants, etc. It is hard to say who hands down has the best burger.
However let's take a look at statistic's chart for 2013.

You probably recognize some these or perhaps you don't. However, shockingly (or maybe not) McDonald's and Burger King are not not the list.
Now for those of you who watch Food Network and know who Guy Fieri is, you know the man talks burgers. Currently his favorite burger is a cheesy pimento cheese stuffed burger stacked with a fried heirloom tomato, homemade spicy ranch dressing, crispy bacon and cabbage slaw. This burger is from season 19, episode 1, titled Guy's New Favorite Burger. Who wouldn't want to try this!
Now, my personal favorite burger is actually not even from America but from South Korea. A little place in Jeonju, Korea called the Saloon that makes a handmade patty that which crumbles as you eat it with their homemade sauce that is to die for, slightly sweet and tangy. Shockingly enough as amazing as their burgers are, their chicken burgers are even better. Trying to order a bbq burger to try something new from my favorite burger place I accidentally ordered the chicken bbq burger. Needless to say the rest was history, always went back for it. The cook is amazing with an English menu for his foreign guests. He even gives his customers a tootsie pop after they pay as a little dessert.
